Jame s May  turned fifty the previous  week. Also, the rally  team composed of war am  putees (pre viously ment ioned i n series 17, epi   sode 6) finally   completed their  challenge of finishing the 2013 Dakar Rally.　　Review: James reviews th  e new Bentley Continental GT , and notes the new engi ne and su btle ride charact eristics.  Believ ing t hat the Ben tley, wi th four wheel drive sy stem and  a big, pow erful engine, can han dle things worse than a Welsh co untryside road, James  takes the car onto  a Welsh stage of the World Rally Champ ionship, with Kris Meeke behind the w heel, and James being the co-driver. Jeremy cheers Damian up b y mak ing a  separate board for snow (he justs  put the time under neath  and to the side of the fastest lap time on that board) and says that he i s the faste st driver  ever on their &qu ot;s now b oard&quot;.　　Challe nge: Jere my attempts  to build a car smaller than the Peel P50, naming his creation the P45. Si  nce it w  as Hammond&#39;s turn to sele ct the challe nge location, the  team went to th e Wester  n United States. Jeremy select  ed the Lexu s LFA, James chose the new  Aston Mar tin Vanquish, and Richard to ok the SRT Viper . After a brief drive in th e Nevad a desert, t he trio headed to  Las Ve gas Motor Speedway, specifically the  drag  strip, to compete in dra  g ra ces organi zed b y the Las Ve gas Police Departme nt; whom organi zed it w ith the theory that allow ing people   to drag race , legally, at a closed ci rcuit , would prevent street racing. D espite  the high p  erformance of their cars, the trio were  beaten by modified  prod uction cars, and 4WD cars , in each o f thei r drag races.　　N ews: Jeremy com  es up  with a solution on how  to solve the crisis af fecting  Britain 's town centr es: sacking all traf fic wardens and removin g double yel low lines. The tri o then  review a Chinese product  designed to stop drow siness behind t he wheel, b efore they took a first look  at the 2013 Jaguar F-Type. They praised its s tyling, bu t criticized its high price ta g of £60,000, as well a s its  target   audi  ence. James mentions Peugeot Citroen's car intended to run  on com pressed a ir; Jeremy attempted  to use a fire extinguisher t o de monstrate, b ut failed after only causin g himself to turn slowly a round.　　Challenge, Part 2.: After leavi ng Las Vega s, James and Richard m ake fun of Jeremy9;s LFA for lacking not onl y Bl uetooth connection and  iPod connectors, but cup holde rs, de spite bein g the  most expensive  car. In t  he end, Jame s won  the challenge by being hit only 17 times.　　Star in a Reasonably Priced Ca r: Fleetwood Mac's Mick Fleetwood drove the Kia Cee'd  around the Test  Track  with a la p of 1:45  .4.　　Challen ge, Part 3: Departing  Willow Sp rings, the group he aded for Los Ang eles, Califo rnia. In order to d o &quo t;real world" testing, Ri chard devised a cha llenge to s ee who could bur n the best elevens. The thr ee in stead ended up drawing a phallus and  left LA. T he team then stayed  for a night in  Palm Spri ngs. However, the prod ucers gave  them a f inal challenge. The three would drive from Palm Springs to the M exican bord er at Calexico the following morning, and the las t to mak e it to the M exican bor der would have to travel into  the country itself to drive the Mastretta MXT, a Mexican s  ports ca r made  fun of by the  presenters in an earlier series, for a later seg ment on the show. I n revenge for ta king them to  America, Jeremy and Jam es sabotaged  Hammond' ;s Viper, causi ng him to lose 10 minutes in the race. Desp ite making a stop for fu el, Jeremy m ade it to the finish line first, with James in second. Ri chard the n walked to the border being the  last p erson to arrive. The cars are almos t id  entical, but Jeremy  prefe  rs the Toyo  ta GT 86. The Stig the n compl eted a lap of the  Test Track  in 1:31:3.　　News: They discus s the new Subaru Impreza, which is not coming to UK, and they then talk about  the  new Maserati Quattroporte.　　Chall  enge, Part 1: The producers h ave reserved a single ticket to  a football match  at the San Siro in Milan, No  rthern It aly. Th e trio have a race from Wem bley Stadium to the   San Siro. Jeremy drives th e Shelby Mustang G T500 and Richard and Jame s travel o n public t ranspor t. Simila r to the p  revi ous race to Monte Carlo, Richa rd a nd Jame s are not all owed to use any cars, and Jeremy is not allowed   to use any trains. Acco rding  to Jer emy, sinc e the last epic race , the trains have be  come f  aster and bo ats have  becom  e slower. Richard and James opened u p a b ig lead whilst travelling on the Euro star, and arrive in Paris while Jer emy was still cros  sing the English Channel on a ferry. After reachi  ng France, Jeremy discove rs that the  Mustang o nly holds 5 0 litres  in its fu el tank. After leavi ng P aris, Richard and  James discuss what to do upon arrivin g in Milan — as  there are two of them but  only one ticket . Hundreds  of miles beh ind,  Jeremy ends part 1 of the  challen ge stating out loud, &quot;I& #39;m gonna lose! "　　Sta r in  a Reasonably Price d Car: Amy  Macdonald drove the K  ia Cee'd around the  Test Track in 1:44.4. During one of her pr actic  e runs, Amy a ccidentally destroyed one of th  e runwa y lights,  whic h Jeremy g ives to her after revealing the lap time.　　 Challen  ge, Part 2: The high s  peed TGV slowed d own as it approach ed the mount ains that su rround Northern Italy. Jeremy began to  catch up a nd was ne arly ne ck and n eck with  the train, until roa d works at  the Mont Blanc Tun nel slow him  down. The train start s to accel erate  again a nd reaches N orthern Italy  ahead of Jeremy. Richard and  James u se a tube network to  get  to the streets near the fin ish line.  James maintains his opposit ion t o run on tel evision  and Richard runs off alone to find the finish line, which is at a bar in the IM  Villa Veuve Cli equot. James then a ssembled a b  ike which he had hidden  in one of his bags  and rides to  the bar, only to find that Richard is already ther e and has won the race and th e ticket to the football ma tch. The Stig did  laps of eac h car, th e Focus being  the slo west at 1:  29.6, t he Astra VXR at 1:28.3, a nd the Megane in 1:27.7. Desp ite t  his, Jeremy chose the Astra V XR as the best  overall  car of the three.　　News:  They discuss the n ewest cars, such as the Alf a Romeo 4C, the next generation Ford Mustang  would be s  old in G  reat Britain, but the UK  version would come with a 2.0 E coBoost engine, and  the import ance of the  handbrake turn in &quo t;male development&quot;.　　Review: J eremy tests the all new Kia Cee  ' ;d, putting it throug h a myriad  of strang e road  tests. Jeremy  demonstrates the co mplexity of modern cars& #39; dshboard. Richard br ings a Fiat Multipla  and bo th modify  it. Jeremy  breaks th e dashboard and replaces it cons idering it to be too compl icated for elders. Richar  d asks for t he airbags sayin  g that  it is da ngerous for the elder ly who are as del icate as childre n, and that he needs it for a sa fety feature. Jerem y makes a speedometer whic h reads 20 m ph at t he top speed, he also  uses an ol d desi  gn switch  for  rear fog li ght which does no thing. Jeremy i nstalls a pet-cag e and r eplaces the  back sea t with  high seat  chairs and t he Fiat bad ge with  a Rover one. They  paint it  in beige after obs  erving the  shade of a hearing aid. Richard uses wat er-resistant fabric as seat co vers,  and while stitchi ng hurt s his eye. T hey comp lete the car and end the part 1 with Richard wearing heavy bandages over his left eye. 　　News: Volkswag en will  laun ch GTI version of the new Golf and GT versi on of Up w ill be la unched. Kia  will launch  the  Pro Cee' ;d GT. The Mini Pacema  n is launched, and the trio mock the front end o f the car, claimi ng that it looks depressing. The trio  agree  that th e British are the b  est drivers. Alfa-Romeo rele ases photographs of the Gloria, in which  the trio make fu n of it&# 39;s name. Richar d ha d arrived late  so James and Jeremy had attempted to p  lay te nnis with cars (w hich has a lot of  editing).　　Review:  James reviews the n ew Range Rov er in  London. The new  car is co mplet ely redesi  gned, 400  kg lighter due to Alum inium  body, has   active suspension, new  gearbo x, minimalist dashboa rd and offers better comfort.  James then  races it against Ter  raMa x at Nevada  Automotive Test Centre, Nevada. The race was   to a hill 10 mile across, passing th rough rocky terrain, hillock   , mud, river  and sand-  tracks. TerraMax was switched  to drone mode duri ng the race to deflate   the tyres and take a short-cut. The Ran ge R over&#39;s auto matic Terrain Response System i s demonstra ted. James takes   a longer  rou te to ascend the hill but still wins the rac e. At t  he studio, the trio consi der  the dr  iverl ess c ars to b  e not very  practi cal.  　　Star In A Reasonably Priced Car: James McAvoy  drove the K ia Cee9;d around the Test Track with a lap of 1:43.6  despite having  less experience o f driving cars. H e drove over grassy patch in t he las  t corner  but manage s to keep th e car un der control.　　Cha llenge, Part 2: Jeremy and Rich  ard road-test their   car at Ch ristchurch,  Dorset . The car has large front bu mpers  made up of foa m, large rear-view mirrors, squeaking  ball under the bra ke-pedal,  large  magnifying-glass on the dashboard, s  at nav  (voiced by Richard Briers) wit h onl y fo ur destin aton s. Th e car has an arti ficial c at on the roof which later fell over   on the way of B  ingo hall. Richard later shows his syste  m to find the locati on of pa rked car (the car ac tivates a flare  and th en releases a  balloon). Jeremy shows that the radio only play s Horse of the Year Show theme o n a loop, whi ch both lat er find to be irr esistible t o clap along. The name of the car is revealed to be The James. They  pick up three elder ly ladies from a  pensioners' home for  road-te  sting and drive them to   a bowling club where it is sh own tha t Richard fitted the airb ag at the rear  for parking  assist  which inflates th e airbag on close proximit y. Jere my and Richa  rd buy food for picn ic, choosing only British foods. They attach  the shopping trolley t o Tow hitch an d head for p icnic.  The ro of of the c ar leaks as  it r ains. Jeremy and Ri chard end  up choosing a picnic spot on roadside where th ey find the trolley to b e dam aged d uring reve rsing and t he food  to be  soaked, how ever they  ate the  food w hich was not r uined. T he n ext day both leave Christchurch and Jer emy shows his s  yste m to preven t the car f rom bein g driven on the   wrong side of the road, the car ini tial ly sounds ala rm and la ter th e tyres, door s and other part s of the car explode which stops the car and renders  it immob ile.  At the studi o, James co nsiders  the  heater to be com plicated, the trio thank Richard Briers an d announce the Afri ca special.　　1 53 Series 1 9, Episode 6 3 March 2013 No Gues  t　　F irst of  the two-episode Africa Spec  ial,  taking place in Afri ca. How ever they are then told that it is not the ac tual source of the Nile and there were two other  disp uted loc  ations for it, one in Rwanda and   one  in Burundi  . However, Jeremy  Clarkson insisted that  both  of these loca tions were wrong and decided to head we st towards Lake  Edward to see whe  ther there was a link betw een tha  t lake and Lake Kivu  in Rwand  a.　　In  thei r journey wes t, wher  e they visit th e Entebbe Airport and f rom there s ee the Ford Scorpio Estate back-up car. They continue into Kampala, Uganda 's Capital City where they get h eld  up in a  traffic jam over  night, t  he most  hurrendous  traffi  c they' d ever seen. 　　They  continue o n well-maintained highw ays we st finding their trip inc  redibly ea sy before  reaching the town  of M barara  in the southwest o f the country, via a st op in Jezza, a villa ge in M pigi District. Here they stay in a  disg  usting hotel, after  driving through tea planta tion s in an atte mpt to  discover a love ly teahous e hote l, which in  the mind of Rich ard, was bound to found due to tea pr ogrammes he'd seen.　　In Mbarara t hey stayed in the Econ omic Lodge w ith Jeremy having a bed with faeces on it . They left the hote l dis gusted before R ichard has  the idea to make the car  s &# 39;hotels '. James modifies his Volvo by adding a library, Rich ard  adds a cooker and Jeremy adds a coffin. T  he coffin he uses to put his clothes in, he sleeps on E gyptian Cotton.　　They leave f or Lake E dward  , camping overnight there because of its be auty before  headi ng i n search of  the riv er heading for Lake Kivu. N one of   the rivers connect the lake as they all head east rathe r than south . They give up, lea ving them disappointe d. Then Jeremy look s at a map and disco vers the source of the Nile must be on the  other side of Lake Vict  oria. His r  easoning is  that  the Mediterranea n Sea is eff ectively an inla nd sea and  so Gibraltar is the true mouth of the Nile, rather than  Alexandri a in Egypt .　　Aft er discovering this t hey decide that th ey must   drive stra ight t o the ot her side o f Lake Victoria t o get to the so utheast coast in T anzania ne ar the Serengeti.
