Also, the rally team composed of wa r amputees  (previously m entioned in series 17, episode 6) finally  completed their c  hallenge of finish ing th e 201 3 Dakar Ra lly. 　　Review: J ames revi  ews t he new Bentl ey Con tine ntal GT, and notes the  new engine and subtle ride characteristic s. Believing that the Bentley, with four wh eel drive system and a big, powerful engine  , can handle things worse than a Welsh coun tryside  road, James  takes the car onto a Welsh sta ge of the World Rally Championship, wi th Kris Meeke behind the wheel, and James bein g the co-driver. Desp ite the car havi ng less grip, mo  re weight, an elec  tronic handbrake (unsuitable for usag e on a rally sta ge) and J ames not being p roficien t at gi ving  pace notes, the Bentley was  actually fa ster than  one of  the ful l WRC cars.　　Star In  A Reasonably Priced Car: Damian Lew is takes his  tur  n in the car , an d drifts the Kia Ce  e'  d arou  nd the snow-coated test trac k and cros ses the  finish  line sidewa  ys, settin  g the slowest ever time of 2:09.1. Since  it was  Hammo nd's turn to  select the challe nge location, t he team went  to the Western  United Sta tes. Jeremy  selected th e Lexus LF  A, Ja mes chose the new As ton Mar tin Va nquish, and  Richard took the SRT Viper. After a brief drive in the Nevada deser t, th e trio hea ded to Las Vegas M otor Sp eedway, sp  ecif ically the d  rag strip , to compete in drag ra  ces organiz  ed by the Las Vegas Police Departmen  t; whom or  ganized it  with  the theory that allowing people to drag race, legally, at a clo sed circuit, would prevent street ra cing. Despite the  high performance of their ca rs, the trio were beaten by modified produc tion cars, and 4WD cars, i n each of their dr ag races.　　News: Jeremy comes up with a so lution on how t o solve the crisis affe  ctin g Britain&#  39;s town centres: s  acking all t raffic wardens and removing double yellow  lines. The trio then rev iew a Chinese pro duct designed to stop dro  wsiness behind th e wh eel, before they  took  a first  look at t he 20 13 Jagu ar F-Type.  They praised its styli ng, but cri ticized  its high p rice tag of £60,000, as well as its target  audience. James mentions Peugeot Citroen& #39;s car intended to run on compressed air; Jeremy attempted to use a f ire ex tinguisher to demonstrate, but failed afte r only causi ng himself to t urn slowly around.　　C  hallenge, Part 2.: After leaving Las  Vegas, James and Richa rd make fun  of Jeremy9;s LFA for lacking not onl y Blu etooth connection and iPod  connectors, but cup holders, despite being the most  expensive car. They are then t asked to hea d to Willow  Sprin gs International M otorspor ts Park, but they  instead stop on a gro oved road, where  each car drive  s over  the gr ooves and p roduces not es. When t hey reach W illow Sp rings, they are forc ed to play  an aerial  versi on of Laser Quest, w here they  would drive  5 laps ar ound the t rack, whilst bein g chased by two Aermacchi SF.260 armed with laser guns.  In t he end, James won the challenge b y being hit only 17 times.　　Star in a Reasonably   Priced Car: Fleetwood Mac's Mick Flee twood drov e the Kia Cee'd around  the Tes t Track with a lap of 1:  45.4.　　Chall enge, Part  3: Departing Willow  Springs, t he group hea  ded for Los Angeles, Cali fornia. In o rder  to do "real  world" testing, Richard devised  a chal lenge t o see who could burn the best el evens. The three instead e nded up drawing a phallus and left LA  . The team then stayed for a n  ight in Pa lm Sprin gs. Howev  er, th e producers gave th em a final challenge. The three would d rive from Palm Sprin gs to th e Mexican border at Calexico the following mornin g, and the l ast to make it to the Mexican bo rder would ha  ve to t rave l into  the country itself to drive the Mastretta MXT, a Mexican sports car made fun   of by the presente  rs in an  earlier series, for a later segment on the  show. In revenge  for taking them to Americ a, J eremy a  nd James sabotaged Hammond& #39;s V iper, causing him to lose 10  minutes  in t he race. Despi   te making a stop for fuel, Jerem y ma de it t  o the finish line first, with  James in second. Richard  then walked to the border being the last person  to ar rive.  At the studio, Ja mes and Jeremy end by saying t hat the  Viper was awful a nd that  the Van quish and LFA were amazing.　　150 Series 1 9, Episode 3 10 F ebruary 2013  Amy Macd onald 　　Review: Jerem y rev iews  the Toyota GT86 and th e Subaru  BRZ. The cars are almost identical, bu t Jeremy prefers  the Toyota GT86. The  Stig then completed  a lap o f the Test Track in 1 :31:3. 　　New s: They discuss the new Sub aru Impreza, which is not coming t  o UK , and they then talk about the new Masera ti Quattrop orte.　　Challenge, Part 1: The pro ducers have reserve d a single ticket to a footb all match a  t the San Siro in Mil an, N orthern Ital y. The trio have a  race from Wembley Stadium to the San Siro. Jere my dri ves the  Shelby Mustang GT500 and R ichard and James trav el o  n public  transport. Simil  ar to the previous race to Monte Carlo, R ichard and James are n ot allowed to   use any  cars,  and Jeremy is not  allowed to use a ny t rains. A ccording  to Jeremy, since  the last epic rac e, the trains have bec ome faster and boat s have bec ome slower. Richard and Ja mes opened up a big lea d whilst travelling on the  Eurostar, and arrive in  Paris while Jeremy w as still  crossing  the English  Channel on  a ferr y. After re aching France, Jeremy  discovers that the Mustang only hol  ds 50 litres in it s fuel tank. After leaving Paris, Richard and James discuss  what to do u pon arriving in Milan — as the re are t wo of them  but only one ticket. H undreds of miles behind, Jer emy  ends  part 1 o  f the c halleng e stating ou t loud, &qu ot;I'm gonna lose!"　　Star in a Reasonably Priced Car: Amy Macdonald drove the Kia Cee'd around  the Test Track in 1:44.4. Durin g one of her practice   runs, Amy accident ally de stroye d one of the runway lights, which Jer emy gives to her after revealing the lap time.　　C hallenge, Part 2: The high speed  TGV s lowed down as it approached the m ountain s that surround Northern Italy. Jeremy be gan to catch u p and was nearl y neck and neck with the train, until ro ad wo rks at the M ont Blanc Tun  nel slow him down. The train starts to accelerate again  and reaches North ern Italy ahead of J eremy. Ric hard and Ja mes use a tube network t o get to the streets near the finish line. James maintains his oppositi on to run on television and Richard runs off al  one to find t he fini sh line,  which is at a bar in the IM Villa  Veuve Cli equot. James then assembled a bike which he  had hidden in one of his bag s and rides to  the bar, only to f ind that Richard is already ther  e and has won the ra ce and the t icket to the  football match. Moments   lat  er, Jeremy arrived and accep ted d efeat for  the first time ever in an epic race of  all the serie  s.　　 151 Serie s 19, Episode 4 17 February 2013 Le wis Hamilton　　Review: Je remy reviews the V  auxh all Astra VXR, Ford  Focus ST and R enault Megane Rena  ult Sport Cu p. The St ig did laps of ea ch car, the  Focus bei ng t he slowest at 1:2 9.6, the Astra VXR at 1:28.3, and the Megane in 1:2 7.7. Despit e this, Je remy chose  the Ast  ra VXR as the best overal l car of the three .　　Ne ws: They dis  cuss  the newest cars, such as t he Alfa Romeo 4C, the next generation Ford Mustan  g wou ld be sold  in Great  Britain, but the UK version would come  with  a 2.0 EcoBoost engi ne, and the importance of the handbrake t urn in " ;male develo pment".　　Rev  iew: Jeremy  tests the all new Kia Cee'd, putting it throu gh a myriad of stran  ge road te sts.  Including Matt Le Blanc doing a lap with bot  h the  old and new Ce e'd, B ruce Willis  (in character as J ohn McClan e) testing  the horn of t he Cee& #39;d, E ric Clapto n testing its auxiliary inpu  t jack, an d Jeremy testing the  Cee'd&  #39;s self parallel p arking featu re.　　Star  in a Reasonab  ly Priced Car : Lewis Hamilton opens up abo ut his m ove from M cLaren to Mercede s AMG and t akes the old Suzuki Liana ar ound the Test Trac k, setting the fa stest F1 time, a 1:4  2.9.　　Review: As punishment for losing the  previo us race, Richard is  force d to  review the Mastretta MXT in Mexico. Minding his words, he states that th e MXT wa s an ambit  ious un dertaking  for the  first-time manufacturer,  but that  it ha d its  share of  flaws.　　Ch allenge: J eremy and James pla y car rugby  using Kia Cee'ds and Kia Sportages at Twickenham Stadiu  m and Stig in Vauxhall  Astra Poli ce car as the referee. Jeremy 9;s tea m wins.  　　152 Seri es 19, Epis ode 5 24 February 2013 James McAvoy　　Challe nge,  Part  1: Jeremy and Ric hard attempt t o design  a car targeted at elderly p eople. Jerem y demonstrates the complexi ty of   modern  cars'  dshboard. Richard brings a Fiat Mul tipla and both m  odify it. Je remy breaks the dashboard and  replaces it considering i t to be to o complicate d for elders. Richard  asks for  the air bags s aying that it is da ngerous for the elderly  who are as delicate as  children,  and t hat he n eeds it for  a safety fea ture.   Jer emy makes a speedometer which r eads 20 mph at the   top speed, he also uses an old design s witch for rear fog light which doe s nothing. J eremy installs a p et-cage and replaces the back seat  with high seat chairs and the Fiat badge with  a Rover one. They  paint it   in beige after  observing the shade  of a h earing aid. Richard use  s water-resistant fabric a  s seat covers, and while stitchi ng hurts his eye. They com plete the  car and end the part 1 with Richa rd wearing heavy ban dages over his left eye.  　　News : Volk swagen will launch  GTI version of  the new Golf and GT vers ion of  Up will be launched. K ia will la unch the Pro Cee' d GT. Th e Mini Paceman is launched, and the tr  io mock  the front end of the c  ar, c laiming that  it looks de press ing. Richa rd had  arrived late so James and Jeremy ha d attempte d to play tennis with cars (w hich has a lot of e diting) .　　Revi ew: James re  views the new Rang e Rover in L ondon. Th e new ca r is completely  redesi gned,  400 kg lig hter  due to Aluminium body,  has active susp  ension, n ew gear  box, minim alist dashboard and offers better comfort. James  then r aces it a gainst TerraMax at Nevad a Automotive Test Centre, Nev ada. The race was to a hill 10 mile  across, passing thro ugh rocky terr ain, hillock, mud, ri ver an  d sand-tracks. T erraMax was swi  tched to d  rone  mode during the ra ce t o deflate the tyres and  take a  short-  cut.   The Range Rove r's autom atic Terrain Response S ystem  is demonstrated. Jam es takes a longer  rout e to ascend the hill  but still wins the race. At the stud io, the trio consid er the drive rless ca rs to be no t very practical.　　Star In A Reasonably Pr  iced C ar: James McAvoy dr  ove the Kia Cee' ;d a  round the Test Track wi th a lap  of 1 :43.6 despite havi ng less ex perience of driving  cars. He dr ove o ver grassy patch in t he last  corner but manages to keep the car under control.　　Challenge,  Part 2: Jer emy and Richard road-test their car a t Christ church, Dorse t. The  car has large front bumpe rs made up  of f oam, large  rear-view mirrors, squeaking bal l under  the b rake -pedal, large ma gnifying-glass on the dashboard, sat nav (vo  iced  by R icha rd Br iers) with o nly four destinatons.  The car has an artificial cat on the roof which later fell over on the way of Bing o hall.  Richa  rd la ter shows his system to find th e locati on of parked ca  r (the car activat es a flare and then relea  ses a ballo on). Jeremy shows that t he radio only plays Horse of the Year Show theme o n a loop, which both  later f ind to be ir resistible to cla  p along . The name of t he car is revealed  to be The James. The y pick up three e lderly l adies from a  pensioners 9; home for roa d-testin g and drive them to a b  owling cl  ub where  it is shown that R  ichard fitt ed the airbag at the rear for  parking  assist whi ch inflates the airbag on   close proximity. Jere my and Richa rd buy fo od fo r picnic, ch   oosing only British foods. They  attach the shopping trolley  to Tow hitc  h and head for picnic. The r oof of the ca r leaks as i t rain s. Jere my and Ri chard end up c hoosing a picnic spot on roadside where they find the trolley to be d amag  ed during reversing and the food to   be soaked, however they ate the fo  od which w as not  ruined. The next da y both leave Christc hurch  and Jeremy shows his sys tem to prevent the car fro m being dr iven o n the wrong side of the road, the ca r initially sounds a larm and lat er the tyres, doors and other parts of the car explode which stop s the car and renders it immobile. At the studio, James  considers the heater to be com plicated, the tri o thank Richard Briers  and announce the Afr ica special.　　153 Series 19,  Episode 6 3 March 2013 No G uest　　F irst of the two-episode Africa  Special,  taking place in Afr ica. The episode w  as shot in   2012.　　Challe nge, Par t 1: Buy used estate cars for up to £ 1,500 in Bri  tain  and repor t at a small village in rural Uganda. Jeremy  arrives in a BMW 528i To uring, Richard  in a Suba ru I mpreza WRX Estate  and James in a Volvo 850R Wagon.   The challe  nge is to find the  true source of the river Nile.　　Th ey s et off an dis cover th at exploring  isn9;t as dif ficult  as first thoug  ht when the y go on a nice easy drive an  d fin d La ke Victor  ia, of whom the Victoria   n Explorers thought was the  source of the Nile. However they are then t old tha t it is not the actual s ource of th e Nile and th ere were two  other disputed lo cations for it,  one in  Rwanda and one in Burundi. Howev  er, Je  remy  Clarkson insisted that both of thes e locations were wro  ng and de cided to head west to wards Lake Edward to s  ee whether there was a  link be tween that lake a nd Lake  Kivu in Rwanda.　　In their journe y west, where they  visit   the Entebbe Airport  and from there see th e Ford Sco rpio Es tate back-up car  . They continue in to Kam  pala, Uganda's Capital City where they get held up in a traf fic jam overnight,  the most hurrendous traffic they'd  ever see  n.　　The  y continue on well-maintai ned highways west find  ing thei r trip i ncredibly easy bef ore  reaching the town of Mbarara  in the sout hwes t of the  count ry, via a st op in Jezza, a vi llage in Mp igi District . Here the  y stay in a d  isgusting hotel , after dr iving thro ugh tea plantati ons in an atte  mpt  to discover a lovely teahouse hotel, which in  the mind  of Richa rd,  was bound to found due to tea  programmes h e'd  seen.　　In Mbarara they stayed i n the Economic Lodge with J eremy h aving a be d wi th faeces on it. They l eft the ho  tel disgusted b efore  Richard has the ide a to make t he cars &# 39;hot els'.  James modi fies his Volvo b y ad ding a library, Richard add s a cooker and Jeremy adds a c offin . The coff in he uses to put his clothe s in, he sleeps on Egyptian  Cotton.　　 They l eave for Lake Edward,  camping o  vernight there because   of its beau  ty before h eading i n se arch of the riv er heading  for L ake Ki vu. None of the rive rs connect the l ake as they all  head east rather tha n south. They give  up, leaving them disappointed.  Then J eremy looks a  t a map  and discov ers the source of the  Nile must be o  n the other  side of Lake Vi ctoria. Hi  s reasoning is that the Mediter ranean Sea is eff ectively an  inland sea  and so Gi bral tar is the true  mouth   of the Nile, rather tha n Al exandria in  Egypt.　　After  disc overing this  they decide that they must drive straight  to the other si de of Lak e Vi ctoria to get to the southeast coast in Tanzania near the S  erengeti.
