James May tur  ned fifty  the previous week. Al so, the rally   team com posed of war amp  utees (previously m entioned in series 17, episode 6) final ly comp leted their challenge of  finishing  the 2013 Dakar Rally.　　R eview: James  reviews the new  Bentley Continen tal GT, a nd n otes the new engine and subtle rid e characteristics. Believing that the Ben tley , with four wheel drive sy stem and a  big, powerful engine, ca n ha ndle things worse than a Welsh countryside road, James takes th  e car ont o a Welsh stage of t he World Rally Cha mpions hip, with   Kris Meeke b ehind  the wheel,  and James being the co-driver. Despit e the ca r having less grip , mor e weight, an electronic handbrake (unsuitable for usage  on a r ally stage) and J ames not being  proficient at giv ing   pace  notes, the Bentley was   actually faster than o ne o f the full WRC ca rs.　　 Star In A R easonably P riced Car: D amian Lewis takes h is turn i n th e car, and drift  s the Kia C  ee'd a roun d the snow-  coated test track and crosses t he fi nish line sideways,  setting the slowe st ever t   ime of 2:09. 1. Since it  was Hammond 9;s turn to  select the challenge location, the tea m went to the Western United State  s. Jeremy se lected the Lexus LFA, James  chose the  new  Aston  Martin Vanqui sh,  and Richard took the SRT Vi per. After a  brief d rive in the Nevad a desert, the  trio head  ed to Las Vegas  Motor Speedway,  specifically the d rag strip, to  compete in drag races org aniz ed by the Las Vegas Police Department; whom o rganized it with the theory t hat allowing people to dra g race, legally, a t a closed circuit, w ould p  revent str  eet racing . Despite t he high per formance of their cars   , the trio were b eaten by modified  producti on cars, and 4WD cars, in each of their   drag  races.　　N  ews: Jere my comes up with a solut ion on how to solve t he crisis affect ing Britain's town centres: sa cking a ll traffic warden s and removing doub le yellow lines. The trio then review a Chinese product desi gned to stop  drowsine ss behind the w heel, before they took a first look  at the 20 13 Jaguar F-Type. Th ey pr aised its st yling, b ut criticized its high price tag o f £60,000 , as well as its ta rget aud ience.  James menti  ons Pe ugeot Citro  en's car intended  to ru n on compressed a ir; Jeremy attempted  to use a fir e extinguish er to dem onstrate, but failed after on ly causi ng hi mself to turn  slowly around.　　Challeng e, Part 2.: After leavi ng La s Vegas , James  and Ri chard ma ke fun of Jere my's LFA for la  cking not only Bluet ooth connection and iPod connec tors, but c up holders, despite being the most e xpen sive car. T hey are then tasked to head to Willow Springs International Motors ports  Park, but  they instead stop on a groov ed road,  wher e each car drives over th e gr ooves and produces notes.  When they reach Willo w Springs, they are forced to play an aerial version of Lase r Quest, where the y would  drive 5 lap  s around the   track,  whils t being chased by two Aermacchi SF. 260 armed  with laser guns. In the end, Ja mes won th e challenge by bein g hit onl y 17 times.　　S tar in a Reasonably Pri ced Car: F leetwood Mac9;s Mick Fleetwood drove the  Kia Cee ';d around the Test Track  with a lap of 1:45.4  .　　Challenge, Part 3: Depa rting Willow Springs, the gro  up headed for Lo s Angeles, California.  In or der   to do " ;real  world& quot  ; testing, Richard dev ised a challenge to se e who c ould burn the b est elevens. The th ree in stead en ded up drawin g a phallus and   left LA. The team  then stayed for a night in Pa lm Springs . However , the producer s gave them  a final chal lenge. The t hree would drive from Pal  m Spri ngs to the Mexica n border at Calexi co the following morn ing,  and the l ast to make it to the Mexican bor der would have  to tr avel into the country  itself to drive  the Mastretta MXT, a Mexican spor ts car made fun o  f by the presenters in an earlier series, for a later  segmen t on the show. In revenge for taking t hem to America,  Jer emy and James sabotaged Ha mmond 's Vipe  r, causi ng him to lose 10 minutes in the race. Despite making a sto  p for fuel, Jeremy made it t o the finish line fir st, w ith Ja mes in second. Richa  rd the n walked to t he borde r being the last per son to arrive. At th  e studio,  James and Jeremy end by saying that th e Viper was awful and that th e Va nquish  and LFA we  re amazing.　　150 Series 19, Episode 3 10  February 2013  Amy Macdon ald　　 Review: Jeremy revi ews the Toyot  a GT86 and the  Subaru BRZ. The cars are almost ide ntic al, but Jeremy prefers the Toyota GT86. The  Stig then   completed a la p of the Test  Track in 1:31:3. 　　News: They  discuss the new Subaru Im preza, whi ch is not coming to UK , and they  then talk about the  new Maserati Quattroporte.　 　Challenge, Part 1:  The produce rs have reserved  a si ngle ticket to a football match at  the S an Siro in Milan,   Northern Italy. The trio  have a race   from Wembley Stadium to t he San Siro. Jeremy drives the Shelby Mustang GT 500 and Ric  hard and J  ames travel on pub lic transport. Similar to th e pre vious r  ace to Monte Carlo, Ric hard and James are not allowe d to use an y cars, and Jere my is not a llowed to  use any trains. According to Je remy, since  the last epic r ace, the tra ins have  become faster and boat s have become slower. Rich ard and James opened up  a big lead whilst travelling on the Eu  rostar, a  nd arriv e in Pari s while Je remy was still crossing the Eng lish Channel on a ferry. After  reaching F  rance, Jerem y discovers that the  Mustang  only hold s 50 litres in  its fuel ta nk. Aft er leaving Par is, Richard  and James di scuss what to do upon a rriving in M ilan — as there ar e two of  them but  only one ticket . Hundreds  of miles behind, Jeremy en ds part 1 of  the challe  nge stating o ut loud,  "I&#39;m gonna lose!&quot;　　Star in a Reasonably Priced Car:  Amy Macdonald drov e the Kia Ce e' d around the  Test Track in 1:44.4. Du ring one of her practice runs, A my accident ally   destroyed one of the runway lights, whi ch Jeremy  give  s to her after revealing the lap time.　　Challeng e, Part 2: The  high speed TGV  slowed down as it approached the mountains that surro und North ern Ital y. Jeremy began to catch up and was nearly neck an d neck  with th  e tra in, until road works a t the Mont Blanc Tu  nnel sl ow him down. Th e train s tarts to acceler ate again and reaches Nor thern Italy ahead of Jeremy. Ric hard and James us e a tube  network to  get to th e streets near the finish line. James maintain s his opp osition to run on  television  and Richard r uns off alone to  find the fin ish line, which is at a bar  in the  IM Vi lla Veuve Cl iequot. James  then assemb  led a bike which he had hidden in one of his bags and rides t o the bar, only to  find that Richard is al  ready the re an d ha s won the race and the t icket to the football match. Moments later  , Jerem y arrived and accepted defeat for the first time ever   in an  epic r ace  of a ll the seri es.　　15 1 Series 19, Episode 4 17 Febru ary 2013 Lewis Hamilton　　Review: Jeremy reviews the Vauxhal l Astra V XR, Ford Focus ST and Renault Megan e Rena ult Sport  Cup. The Stig di d laps of each car,  the Focus b eing the slowest at 1 :29.6, the Astra VX R at 1:28.3, and the Megane in 1:27. 7. Jeremy&#39;s team wins. 　　152  Series 19, Episode 5 24 February 2 013 James McAvoy 　　Challenge,  Part 1: Jer emy and Richard attempt to design  a car ta rgeted at  elderly p eople. Jeremy demonstra  tes the complexity of modern cars' dshboard. Richard bri  ngs a Fiat M ultipla and both modify it. J eremy breaks the  dashboard and rep  laces it consid ering  it t o be   too complicated f or elders. Richard  asks for the airba gs saying that  it is dang   erous for  the elderly who are as delicate a s children, a nd that he needs it  for a safety  feature. Jeremy makes a  speedometer which reads 20 mph at the top s peed, he a lso uses an o ld design sw  itch for rear fog l ight which does nothing. Jeremy installs a pet-cage and  replaces the  back seat with high s eat cha irs and the Fiat badge wi th a Rover one. They paint it in beige  after obser ving the sha de of a hearing aid. Richard uses water-resistant fabric  as se at covers , and while stitchi ng hurts his eye. They complete the car and end the part 1 with Richard wea ring heavy bandages over his left eye.　　News: Volksw agen will l aunch GTI version of the  new   Golf and GT version of  Up will be  launched. Kia will laun ch the Pro C ee'd  GT. T he Mini  Paceman is launched,  and the trio mock th e front end of the car, claiming that it looks d epressing. The tr io agree that the British ar e the be st drivers. Alfa-Romeo rel  eases photographs of the Gloria  , in which   the tr  io make fun of it's name. Richard ha d arri ved lat e so J ames and Jere my had attempte d to  play tennis with cars ( which has a lot of editing).　　Review: J ames revie ws the new Range Rover in Lon  don. The ne w car  is com pletely r  edesigned, 400 kg lighter due to Aluminium bod y, has a ctive suspension, new gearbox, minimalist dashboar d and o ffers better comfort. Ja mes then races it against  Terra Max at Nevada Auto motive T est  Centre, Nevada. The race was to  a hill 10 mile acr oss, passing t hrough rocky terrain  , hill ock, mud,  river and sand-tracks. TerraM ax was swi tched to  drone mode during the rac e to def late the ty  res and take a s hort- cut. The Range Rover& #39;s automatic T errai n Response   System is demonstrat ed. James takes a longer r oute to asc end th e hill but  still wins the race . At the  studio, th e trio consi der the dri verl ess  cars to b e not ve ry prac tical.　　Star In  A Reasonab ly Pr iced Car: J ames McAvoy dro ve the Kia Cee'd around the Test   Track  with a lap of  1:43.6 despite having less   experience of driv ing cars. He drove over grassy patch in the l ast corner but ma nages to keep the car under contr ol.　　Challenge, Part 2: Jeremy and  Richard road-test thei r car at  Christchurch, Dorset. The c  ar has large  front bump ers made up of foam, la rge rear-vie w mirrors, squeaking b all under th e brake-pedal,   large magni fying-gl ass on the dashboard , sat nav  (voiced by Richard Briers) wit h only fo  ur destina tons. The ca r has an artificial cat on the  roof which later fel l over on the way of Bingo h  all. Richard later sh ows his sy stem to find the locat ion of parked car (the car activa tes a fl are and then releases  a balloon). Jeremy shows that the  radio only plays Horse of the Y  ear Sho  w theme on a loop, which bot h later find to be irresistible to c lap along.  The na  me of t  he car i s reveal ed to be The  James.  They pick up three eld erly ladies from a pe nsioner s9; home f  or road-testing and dri ve them to a bowling club where it is shown that Ric   hard fitted the ai rbag at the rear fo r parking a ssist which inflate s the airbag on close proxi mity.  Jeremy  and Richard buy food f or picni c, choosing only  British foo ds. They attach   the shop ping trolle y to Tow  hitch and  head for picnic. The roof of the car leak s as it rains. Jeremy and Ri chard end u p choosing  a pic nic spot on roadside where t hey fi nd the tro lley to  be damaged during reversing and t he food to be soaked, how ever the  y at e the food wh ich was not ruined. The next day both leav e Christc hurch and Jeremy shows h  is system to prevent  the ca r from being driven on the w rong side of t he road , the car initially sounds alarm and later the tyres, doo rs and other pa rts of th e car explode which  stops  the car a nd renders it immob ile. At the studio, James  cons iders t he heater to be  complicated, the tri o than k Richard Briers and announce the Africa special.　　 153 Series 19, Episode 6 3 March 2013 No Gu  est　 　First of the t  wo-episode Africa Special, taking place in Africa. The episod e was shot in 2012.　　Challenge, Part 1: B uy used estate cars for up to £1,500 in Br itain and report a  t a sm all village in rur al Uganda. Jere my arrives in a BMW 528i Touring, Richard in a Subaru Impr  eza WRX Es  tate and James in a Volvo   850R Wagon. The chal lenge is to find   the t rue source of the river Nile.　　 They s et off an discover  that exp lori ng isn&#39;t as dif  ficult as first   though t when they go on a nice easy dri ve and fin d Lake Victoria, of whom the Victorian  Explo rers  thought  was  the s ource of the Nil e. However they a re then  told tha t it is not the actual sour  ce of the Nile and there were two other disputed loca tions for i t, one in Rwand a and one in Burundi.  However, Jeremy Clarkson   insisted  that both of thes  e locations were wrong and decided to h ead west tow ards Lake Edward to see  whet her   there was a li nk betwe en that lake and Lake  Kivu in Rwanda.　　 In thei r journey we st, where they vi sit  the E ntebbe Airport  and fr om there see the F ord Scor pio Estate b ack-up car . They c  onti nue int o Kampala , Uganda's Capital  City where they get  held up in a  traffic jam o  vernight, the most hu rrendous traffic they&#39;d e ver seen.　　They co ntinue  on well-maintai ned  highways west finding their  trip inc redibly easy before re aching the town of Mbarar a in the southwest of the country, v ia a stop in Jezza, a village  in Mpigi Di strict. Here they stay in a disg ustin g hotel,  after d riving through tea pl antation s in an attem pt to discover a lov ely teahouse  hotel, which in the mind of Rich ard, was bound  to found due to tea pro grammes h e'd se en.　　I n Mb arara th  ey stayed in the Ec  onomic Lod ge with Jeremy ha ving a bed  with faeces on it. They l eft the hotel disgusted before Richard has the idea to make the cars 'hotels '. James mod ifies his Volvo by ad  ding a library, Richard adds a  cooker and Jeremy adds a coff in. The cof  fin h e use s to put hi s clothes in, he sleeps on Egyptian Cotton.　　They l eave for Lak e Edward, ca mping overnight there be cause of its b eauty bef  ore he ading in search of t he river heading for Lak e Kivu. N one of the r ivers connect the lak  e as they a ll head east rat her than south. T hey gi ve up,  leaving them disappoi nted. Then Jeremy looks at  a map an d discovers the source of the Nile must be on the oth er sid e of  Lake Vi ctor  ia. His rea soning is t hat the M editerranean Sea is  effectively  an inland  sea and so G ibraltar is  the tru e mout  h of the Nile, rather than Alexand ria in Egypt.<  br/>　　Aft er discovering this they decid e that  they must drive  straight to the other side of Lak e Victori a to get to the southeast co ast in Tanzania nea  r the Sere  ngeti.
