Mangan said: &qu ot;I ' ve been a fan of Dou glas Adam s ever si nce the Hitchhiker's radio ser ies which I used to reco rd as a child and listen to o ver and over ag ain in my bedroom. Well, we did eventu ally get a film made in Hollyw ood of H itchhiker and, trag ically, Douglas didn&# 39;t live to see it. Nor wi ll he see this adaptation of Dirk – bu t it's w orth bearing in mind tha t Douglas al ways thought Dirk woul d make a be tter film than Hitch hiker and I feel sure that thi s new TV drama with a terrific scrip t by Howa rd Overman will prove his point." Shooting beg ins thi s week i n Bristol on t he 60-minut e drama, which i s being m ade by ITV Studios in association with the Welded Tande m Picture C ompany.
