It's such   a thrill to now be playing one of his brilliant  characters.　　&q  uot;Dirk   is a chaotic, anar chic force of n ature with a totally unique t ake  on the world. He is described as & #39;lazy, untidy, dismi ssive and unreliable9;. I9;ve abs olut ely no idea why they thought I'd be right for the role.&q uot;　　The  Dirk Gently books have formed the basis o f a play and a BBC Radio 4  series but have ne ver  before been fi lmed for TV.　　Ad ams's agent, Ed  Victor, said: "For all the  years I r  epresented the late, great Douglas Ada ms, the most subst antial frustration for both  of us was that we  couldn't ge t films made ei ther of Hi  tchhiker or Di rk.　　"D ouglas once said, memorably, that 'getting a film made in Hollywoo d was like trying to cook a steak by having a bunch  of people come into the room and breathe on it'  . Well , we did eventually  get  a film made in  Hollywood of   Hitch hiker and, tragically, Douglas didn't live to see it.
