It& #39;s such a thrill to no w be playing  one  of his bril liant  characters. 　　"Dirk   is a chao  tic, anarchic force of  nature with  a totally  unique  take o n the world. He is described as 'lazy,  untidy, dismiss ive and unrel iable9;. I'v  e absolutely no  idea why they thought I'd b e right for the role."　　 The Dirk Gently books have for med the ba sis of a play and a BBC Radio 4 se ries but have never  before been filmed for TV.　　Ad ams9;s agent, Ed Vic tor, s aid: "For  all the years I repres ented the late, great  Douglas Adams, the mo  st substantial frustrati on for both of us was that we couldn't get films made eit  her of Hitchhiker or  Dirk. 　　" Doug las on ce said,  memorably, that 9;getting a film  made in Hollywood was lik   e trying to  cook a steak by having a bunch  of people  come i nto the room and bre athe on it& #39;. Well, we  did eventually get  a film made in Hollywo od of  Hitchhiker and, tragi cally,  Douglas didn  9;t live   to see it.
