《丹麥小村教堂》是由知名导演卡爾·西奧多·德萊葉 执导的一部劇情片，Ib Koch-Olsen 等倾情出演，该片讲述了：　　Th e histor y of Dani  sh country church architecture i s told by showin g scenes of how the church was used by the cong regation,  beginning with the   celebration  of mass in a small and si  mple wooden church 800  years ago, and e nding w ith the congregation  singing in a village ch urch of to-day. The development and the growth of the  pattern of church architect ure is shown.　　Dreyer  in this fi lm shows a series of church es from different periods wi th churchgoe rs in period clothing. Each period is s eparated by a shot of a ch urch bell do uble-exposed on the sky. Al though the film has a vibrant and instruc  tive w ay of communi cating the different  epochs and  styles to stud ents, it  does not exh ibit the a rtist ic quality that usuall  y distinguish es a D  reyer film, exc  ept perhaps in so me of the cos  tumes, which were originally made  for D ay of Wrath.　　The board of   Dans  k Kul turf ilm in autumn 1945  decided that thei r pla nned  church film would exclusively be about vi  llage c hurche s. Drey er would  rework the scr ipt tha t was writte n by e ditor   and folk hig h-school principal Bernhard Jensen, aide d by a comm ittee of ex perts consistin g of arch itect H. Lø nborg-Jensen and Victor Herm ansen, curator at the N ational  Museum of De nmark. Dreyer ha  d a first d  raft ready in m id-March , entitled K irken  er et  gammelt Hus (" The Church Is an Old  House&q uot;), which was distri buted to   the mem bers of the committee for  their comments.　　In the last half of Ju ly, Dreyer an d Victor Hermansen travelle d the cou  ntry to look at sui table  churches.  They researched the details and at Dreyer’s request a number of  technic al chan ges were made to the ch  urches, including the removal of porcelain hol ders for electrical wiring in Tveje Merløse Church.　　On 4 J uly,  Dreyer went in  advanc e to Ringkøbing. Sh ooting was set to start a f  ew days l ater with the arrival  of the director  of photo graphy,  Preben F  rank, who  had fallen o ff a ladder an d broken his leg, Fortunately, he was re ady to  cautiously start working again within a few days, wit h his leg in a cast.　　Otherwise, the p roduction went without   a glitch. Everywhere, Dreyer said, they we re well recei ved at the vicarages a  nd they had no  problem getting enough e xtras. On 1 august, they return ed to Copenhagen with almost all their footage in the can. They only needed to  film the church in Skelby, w here the we   ather had be en against t hem, plus a Swe dish wood en church  in Hed  ared. The econo my was distressed so soon af ter the war, especially when it came to  foreign currency, but t here were no real wooden churches left in Denmark an d bu ilding an  interior  set in the  studio would be too expens  ive.　　The finished   film was shown for  the fir st time o n 24  Sept ember 1 947 to a  small, closed circle, which incl uded the Minister for E ccles iastical Affairs.
