Manga n said: "I've been a fan of D ougl as Adams ever since the Hitchhiker' ;s radi o seri es which I used to r ecor d as a child and listen to over and over again in my bedroom . It's such a thrill to now be pl aying one of his bri lliant characte rs. "Dirk is a chaotic , anarchi c force of natu re with a tot ally unique take on the world. He is described as 'lazy, un tidy, dismis sive and unreliable'. I've a bsolutely no id ea why they t hought I'd be right for the role." The Dirk Gent ly boo ks have formed the b asis of a play and a BBC Radio 4 series but have neve r bef ore b een filmed for TV. Shooting begins this week in B ristol o n the 60-minute drama, which is being mad e by ITV Studios in associat ion w ith t he Welded Tandem Picture Company.
